30 June 2021: Deloitte Australia’s refreshed approach to work will give employees greater flexibility, including the removal of core working hours and a yearly paid wellbeing day.
Deloitte Australia CEO, Adam Powick said COVID had accelerated a trend towards more flexible work that had been underway for some time. At Deloitte, we want to fully embrace, and be leaders in, creating a more flexible and balanced working environment for our team.
“And that is why I am excited today to announce the launch of the Deloitte Experience – our new way of working at Deloitte. Founded on concepts of trust, balance, wellbeing and the importance of personal connection, the Deloitte Experience empowers our people to make choices about where they work based on their client, team and individual needs and how they connect with our clients and each other.
“There is no one size fits all working week any more and no requirement to be ‘in the office’ for any set amount of time. While some clients need face-to-face connection, others have pivoted strongly to more virtual ways of working.
“Our culture is centred on meaningful connections and relationships, but we also recognise that people are more productive when they have flexibility and they are able to appropriately balance virtual and in- person work.”
The Deloitte Experience is built on dialling up flexibility and choice for Deloitte’s people alongside a focus on delivering market-leading outcomes for clients. This program empowers employees to collaborate with their leaders to shape the way they work and design their working week based on client and team needs, as well as their own.
Deloitte Australia Chief Human Resources Officer, Tina McCreery said working 9 to 5 could well be a thing of the past for many employees.
“Flexible working is critical to increasing engagement and productivity, supporting work-life balance and employee wellbeing, and recruiting top talent,” Ms McCreery said.
“The choice of what it means to ‘be at work’ will rest with employees so they can be at their best and work in a way that suits their client, their team and their individual circumstances.”
Deloitte’s market-leading flexible work policy, DeloitteFlex, now includes 12 flexible working options that allow employees to shape their working day and provide a wide range of leave choices including wellbeing leave, volunteering leave, cultural holidays, and caring leave.
“This approach lets our employees find the right balance and allows them to choose the best ways of working to connect with their clients and their team,” Ms McCreery said.
As input into the design of this program, Deloitte Australia has taken into account findings from Deloitte Global’s Women @ Work report, which surveyed 500 Australian women on the impact of the pandemic on their working life and managing personal responsibilities.
Deloitte has also continued to evolve and enhance its Virtual Office capability, which provides the latest digital technology required to work successfully away from the office.
Increased virtual work means less travel and commuting, and so a key benefit of this approach is that it directly supports Deloitte Australia’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2030.
