Richard Norton

In June 2019 Richard Norton joined Deloitte Legal in Perth as a Legal Practitioner Director. He was a founding partner of the boutique tax law firm of Norton & Smailes which ceased practice in 2016. Richard has substantial experience in all aspects of revenue law, including litigation in the Australian Federal Court, High Court and the Supreme Court of Western Australia, as well as in structuring and estate planning advice. He has negotiated many dispute resolutions with the ATO. He much prefers to advise clients on avoiding disputes by adopting sensible and effective tax positions, having regard to the legislation and its interpretation, the known views of revenue authorities and the commercial requirements of clients.
