This year, the market capitalisation of Western Australian entities listed in the WA Index closed at A$494.3 billion, a huge 36% increase from 2025. By comparison, the ASX All Ordinaries increased by 2.4%. A truly remarkable result.
Several factors contributed to this growth. Global macroeconomic conditions pushed gold to record highs, accounting for a significant share of the overall increase. Once the conflict in the Middle East started towards the end of the March quarter, gold began to pull back, but energy stocks in both oil and gas and battery minerals picked up the pace and recorded significant gains. The sector also attracted new money, with significant capital raisings by existing companies and a spate of reasonably sized IPOs also making their mark.

Decarbonisation, digitalisation, workforce transformation, commodity volatility, and geopolitical realignment are no longer separate conversations happening in separate boardrooms. They are converging at once, and the response they demand is not a programme or an initiative. It is a fundamental rethink of how mining Company operate, invest, and compete.
At this year’s Diggers & Dealers Mining Forum, we are helping mining leaders focus on what actually builds long-term value:
The goal is not to overwhelm the company’s people it is to make the path forward feel navigable.
