Deloitte makes major strides in International Tax Review’s 2009 World Tax rankings

The International Tax Review, one of the most authoritative publications in the global tax field, released its  2009 World Tax rankings in November. Of 52 jurisdictions examined, 47 Deloitte tax practices were ranked at the highest levels.

The rankings divide tax practices into four different tiers. The top two levels (Tier 1 and Tier 2) are assigned to practices that have the greatest depth of resources, experience, rage of specialties, and are considered the best overall for tax in their respective locales. No Deloitte tax practices were rated at the Tier 4 level.

Deloitte’s Asia Pacific region was named "Tax Firm of the Year" as part of the 2009 rankings, and the tax practice in Deloitte New Zealand was voted the best in that country. Overall, seven Deloitte tax practices improved their tier rankings, including practices in Australia, Spain, Sweden, Singapore, and India.

Among other achievements, 211 Deloitte tax professionals—a 53 percent increase over 2008—were named as leaders in the 2009 World Tax guide.

“Deloitte’s member firms continue to add to their growing list of achievements and the results of the 2009 World Tax rankings are an important reflection of how we are building eminence and developing the future of our practice,” said Alberto Terol, DTT’s Global Managing Partner for Tax. “Deloitte’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 member firm rankings are validation of our ongoing focus and investment in strategic geographies to deepen our global footprint and service capabilities worldwide.”
