Deloitte Foundation and Federation of Schools of Accountancy Hosts 10th Annual Faculty Consortium

WILTON, Conn., May 17, 2012 — This month, top accounting educators and professionals will convene at the 10th annual Deloitte Foundation and Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA) Faculty Consortium.  The Consortium addresses current business and accounting issues and provides company-based cases for the classroom. This year’s meeting will focus on “Judgment in Accounting and Auditing.

“Through this faculty consortium, the Deloitte Foundation and the FSA are working to support and sustain the high-quality of accredited graduate accounting programs at colleges and universities nationwide,” said Shaun Budnik, president of the Deloitte Foundation and member of the FSA Board of Directors.  “This is a part of our collective commitment to bring real-world business case studies and accounting trends into the classroom in order to better prepare our profession’s next generation of talent.”

The primary objective of the Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium is to encourage an open dialogue between accounting practitioners and academia around the latest emerging business and accounting issues and trends.  This year’s program will consist of presentations, a panel session, and case studies focused on judgment frameworks and applications in practice, revenue recognition, disclosures and contingencies, and investments and fair value. Deloitte and the FSA Board work collaboratively to develop and execute the content-rich program.

“Each year, the Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium enables educators to discuss critical accounting topics and rethink their curricula. Bringing current real-world examples into the classroom is essential to students preparing for their accounting careers,” said Fred Mittelstaedt, professor at the University of Notre Dame and vice president of the FSA.
