- Budget writers grill Lew on White House tax-and-spending blueprint – Treasury Secretary Jack Lew faced questions from lawmakers about tax reform, deficit reduction, and specific revenue offsets as he testified before the House and Senate Budget committees in separate hearings on President Obama’s fiscal year 2014 budget proposal.
- GAO reports on corporate tax expenditures – A report from the Government Accountability Office estimates that corporate tax expenditures cost the government more than $181 billion in 2011 – roughly equal to the amount raised by the corporate income tax that year.
- Finance Committee releases tax reform options paper on work, marriage, education issues – The latest tax reform options paper from the Senate Finance Committee outlines proposals to overhaul the tax rules as they relate to children and work, marriage, and education.
