Meet Dinah A. Koehler, Sc.D.

Senior Manager, Deloitte Services LP

Protecting our environment is personal – it affects what we breathe, eat, drink and touch. For over 20 years, Dinah A. Koehler’s career has been a relentless journey to understand what degradation of the natural environment can mean for human prosperity, quantification of these impacts (in social and economic terms) and how to pragmatically reduce them in a cost-effective manner.

Her first industry experience was as environmental manager at a major global packaging company operating a greenfield facility in Hungary in the early 1990s. She has worked in corporate environmental, health and safety teams in the health care industry and automobile industry.

At Deloitte she leads research on sustainability on topics, including materiality of environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, their valuation impacts and measurement; corporate ESG strategy; social media dynamics and communicating on green messages to the consumer, including eco-labels. Dinah has been invited to present her research at University of Michigan, Yale, the Wharton School, and Harvard and has published in peer reviewed journals and books. She has advised Harvard and Wharton on academic programs and research databases related to enterprise sustainability. Before joining Deloitte, she worked at The Conference Board, the EPA’s Office of Research and Development and Wharton.

She has a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Wellesley, a Master in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a doctorate in environmental health and risk management from Harvard School of Public Health.
