Meet Jack Midgley

Director, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Dr. Jack Midgley is a director in Deloitte Consulting LLP’s defense consulting practice, serving top-management clients in the global defense and intelligence communities as they address complex strategy and policy issues.

In 2010-11, Jack served in Afghanistan as a civilian senior advisor to the Commander, International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF), working with top US, NATO and Afghan leaders on security transition, detention operations and rule of law issues. Earlier, Jack was US managing partner at Munich-based Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and a senior partner at Ernst & Young Consulting, leading strategy and globalization assignments for aerospace/defense, technology and government clients worldwide. Jack also led product development for two Silicon Valley companies, creating innovative offerings for B2B markets.

A lifelong debate educator and coach, Jack created and teaches Deloitte University’s “Argument and Advocacy” course. He is a Board member of the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues and teaches debating skills as an adjunct fellow of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. As Associate Professor and Director of Debate in West Point’s Department of Social Sciences, Jack chaired West Point’s intercollegiate debate program, directed the Academy’s National Security Seminar and taught economics. He is a former Board member of the Cross-Examination Debate Association and co-author of “Prima Facie”, a textbook for college debaters.

Dr. Midgley holds a Ph.D. in political science (Defense Policy and Arms Control) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the M.P.P from Harvard University and a B.S. in engineering from West Point and is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. He was president of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and served as the first executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Center for Public Affairs.

During active commissioned service in the US Army, Jack commanded Troop I of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and served on the Army Staff, the Plans Directorate (J-5) of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the US Mission to NATO.

A frequent speaker on national defense and security issues, Jack leads the development of Deloitte’s annual Global Defense Outlook and has appeared on CBS, NBC, Fox and other media.
