Navigating the Future of the U.S. Department of Defense
Continued success through resource management, collaboration and innovation
The 2013 Navigating the Future of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) examines defense policies and practices during a time of proposed fiscal constraints. To take a look at the DoD’s options, Deloitte’s U.S. Federal Government Practice convened a panel of professionals with in-depth DoD experience to discuss the “Future of the U.S. Department of Defense.” The panel included: General Jim Jones (USMC, Ret.), Dr. John Hamre, Secretary Gordon England, Mr. Kenneth Krieg, and Major General Arnold Punaro (USMC, Ret.). The panelist discussed overhead structure, personnel management, compensation programs, and culture as areas of focus to be considered as the Department prepares for a new fiscal environment.
This paper builds upon the conversation started during Deloitte’s panel event and addresses the following topics:
- Cutting costs without cutting the mission
- Changing the culture while retaining core strengths
- Leveraging Deloitte accelerators for change and innovation
