Deloitte Hyderabad 10K run
Deloitte employees run for a healthy future
Hyderabad, February 24, 2013: Close on the heels of a successful ‘Impact Day’, a community involvement programme of Deloitte, the professional services firm is now all set to launch ‘Deloitte Hyderabad 10K’. The activity, which is part of employee health and fitness programme, makes a debut this year and is all set to become an annual exercise. With over 2000 Deloitte professionals participating in this year’s run, this is the first instance of an MNC in India organizing an annual 10K run for its employees.
The run is scheduled to be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 and will start from and end at Deloitte’s Gachibowli (E-Block) office located at Nanakramguda, Hyderabad. Internationally, for the third year in a row, Deloitte has been named a Gold Level recipient of the American Heart Association’s “Start! Fit-Friendly Companies” program. The award celebrates Deloitte’s leadership in promoting health and wellness for its professionals. The 10K run in Hyderabad is expected to reinforce Deloitte’s commitment to a ‘healthy’ workforce in India and help the company further its vision. Also, Deloitte’s health and wellness program was adjudged a top best practice in the ‘Best of Breed HR showcase’ at the 16th Annual NHRDN Conference recently held in Hyderabad.
While the primary focus of the activity is to inspire professionals to take pragmatic steps for their wellbeing, the run is also aimed at giving an opportunity to experience the energy and joy in team work towards a common goal. Apart from health benefits of the employees, which will accrue from the initiative, it will also help spread awareness around the importance of cardiovascular health since the modern life style has proved to be the stimulus for the growth of heart disease among the young population in India.
Speaking on this occasion - Hari Kumar, Principal, Deloitte LLP, USA, said “We are known across the globe for being one of the best organizations to work with and we wish to continue being considered the same. We also believe that good health leads to higher efficiency at the workplace and an overall better quality of life. With this belief we have organized this 10K run and hope that it helps us promote healthy lifestyle not just for our employees but through them in their communities.”
Rani Desai, Chief People Officer, Deloitte in India, said, “Such employee-focussed initiatives help us attract, develop, and retain the talented people whom we need. People appreciate working at an organization, where besides providing a great working environment we facilitate and promote health and fitness programmes such as this 10K run.”
While the run attracted employees from various fitness levels, it had over 500 Deloitte professionals who are regular runners and take part in marathons and half-marathons all across the country.
Deloitte’s Health & Fitness program provides opportunities for all of our professionals, regardless of their starting fitness level, to implement healthy lifestyle changes. With unique opportunities to participate in endurance events, attend health fairs or by simply checking out some of our online exercises – our people are incorporating healthful activity into even the busiest of lives.
