Global Human Capital Trends 2013, with analysis of data from ChinaDeloitte Global conducted an extensive survey of more than 1,300 business leaders and HR executives in 59 countries across the world’s major economic regions, we have identified the critical current and emerging trends shaping talent, HR and global business over the next few years.

Through extensive communications with clients and experts as well as detailed research and analysis, senior members of Deloitte’s Human Capital team have identified 13 global trends that we believe are driving human capital decisions. In our research, two categories of trends emerged: “Exploration,” or trends that are pushing business leaders to explore new Human Capital paths and new solutions; and “Execution” or trends that require executives to change the way they execute their talent, HR and business strategies.

Analysis of data from China

Chinese survey respondents' perception of the economy and the overall business development in 2013 seems largely optimistic. Nearly 40% of Chinese enterprises involved in the research on existing human resources management system and talents scheme are satisfied, but there is no doubt the talent war has been existing for a long time. Other issues including leadership development training and human resource support to the business still will not be greatly improved in a short term, enterprises are still facing a lot of pressure.

The results also show that the talent issue is not just causing distress for Chinese enterprises, it is a challenge globally and across the Asia-Pacific region.  Furthermore, companies in China have put a stronger emphasis on the role played by human resources to support their corporate strategy.  The findings have provided us with insight into the new trends which will affect Chinese businesses in the next 1 - 3 years, such as The Open Talent Economy and A Global Diversity Dividend.

Deloitte believes the real challenge for business and HR leaders today is to ask: What are we doing today to get in front of these trends? How do we make them work for us, rather than against us? In short, what are we going to do differently and how are we going to do it?
