We invite you to join the next workshop in the Deloitte INED Series on 29 November 2012. The topic and structure of our next workshop take into account valuable feedback from our prior workshops, which attracted full capacity attendances.
Recent regulatory trends indicate that an INED is expected to be on watch more than ever before, and that the INED him/herself is also under watch more than ever before. This, against a background of growing economic uncertainty and investor nervousness, places greater stress on INEDs. Our workshop will address:
What do regulators really expect of the INED?
How can you as an INED effectively manage the not always convergent expectations of regulators, company management and investors?
What do you need to watch out for when you are presented with the company's financial data, especially in times of economic uncertainty?
This workshop will be hosted by Derek Lai, Asia Pacific Leader of Restructuring Services and will feature the following special guest speaker and Deloitte subject matter expert.
Special guest speaker: The Hon. Ronald Arculli GBM, CVO, GBS, OBE, JP, Senior partner of King & Wood Mallesons, the Hong Kong Office of one of the largest law firms in Mainland China and Australia. He is an Independent Non-Executive Director and former Chairman of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and serves on the boards of several major listed companies in Hong Kong. In addition, he was the Chairman (2010-2012) and Board Member (2008-2012) of the World Federation of Exchanges. Mr Arculli is also a member of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and has a long and distinguished record of public service both locally and overseas.
Deloitte speaker: Stephen Taylor, Partner in charge of Deloitte China's audit and assurance technical department, head of the Deloitte Asia Pacific IFRS Centre of Excellence and a member of Deloitte's Global Audit Quality Board. Stephen is the Deputy Chairman of HKEx Listing Committee and a member, and one of the conveners, of the Financial Reporting Council’s Financial Reporting Review Panel. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he is also a member of the Professional Standards Monitoring Expert Panel and its Sustainability and Integrated Reporting Group. Stephen is also a member of the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial Accounting Standards Board joint committee on Financial Statements Presentation (performance reporting), and has been directly involved with the development of Accounting Standards for the People's Republic of China.
