Top Honour of Deloitte Tax Championship 2012 goes to Tsinghua UniversityDOWNLOAD

Tsinghua University captured the crown at the Deloitte Tax Championship 2012 ("the Tax Championship" or "the competition"), an annual tax competition for tertiary students in Greater China, with a record participation of 66 universities this year. Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and Sun Yat-sen University were in second and third place respectively. For the essay competition, four post-graduate students – Mr. Lin Hanyao (Sun Yat-sen University), Ms. Zhang Chujie (University of International Business and Economics) and Ms. Sun Tian and Mr. Su Guocan (joint essay from Xiamen University) were the top winners.
Following the first round of competitions in August, the 13 finalist teams competed against with one another at the final national competition at Suzhou from 19-21 October 2012. During the final competition, students were required to provide solutions to a simulated business case through a presentation to a panel of judges, including government's tax officials and senior business executives. For the essay competition, students from the eight selected merit papers were required to deliver a presentation for determining the top three winners.

The 13 finalist teams include (listed in alphabetical order) Hong Kong Shue Yan University (Hong Kong), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Wuhan), Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (Nanchang), Macau University of Science & Technology (Macau), National Chengchi University (Taipei), National Taiwan University (Taipei), Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (Shanghai), South China University of Technology (Guangzhou), Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (Chengdu), Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou), Tsinghua University (Beijing), Xiamen University (Xiamen) and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (Wuhan).
Launched in 2004, the Deloitte Tax Championship is a signature initiative of Shanghai Deloitte Tax Ltd. and the Deloitte Tax Research Foundation, which promotes education, research and innovation in the field of taxation by supporting an array of national and local programs. The competition aims at facilitating the development of the tax education, nurturing future talent for the profession, and promoting interest in tax studies.
