Tax highlights

23 September 2013

In this week's Tax highlights we feature:

  • New ATO consultation arrangements: The ATO has released information on its new consultation framework, which comprises eight stewardship committees, technical and special purpose working groups and a consultation hub
  • ‘Son of Holdback’ – Full Court affirms GST treatment of motor industry incentive payments: The Full Federal Court in AP Group Limited v Commissioner of Taxation has found that the taxpayer was successful in arguing that GST was not payable on target incentive payments or transit allowances
  • Fuel tax credits – draft ‘safe harbour’ rates: The ATO has released a draft practice statement setting out specific 'safe harbour' rates that the ATO considers to be ‘fair and reasonable’ for the purposes of taxpayers claiming fuel tax credits for taxable fuel that is for use in powering auxiliary equipment in/on heavy vehicles travelling on public roads.

Plus we provide our synopsis of the latest legislative developments, cases, announcements, and ATO information and releases.
