Build dynamic resilience: the FSC Deloitte challenge to Gen Ys for the 2013 Future Leaders Award

21 February 2013:  Dynamic Resilience is the theme of this year’s Financial Services Council Deloitte Future Leaders Awards. In its eighth annual challenge to the young professionals in the wealth management sector, the Financial Services Council and Deloitte launched the 2013 Award questions to the Gen Ys of full members of the Council, the regulators and AUSTRAC today. 

“Our goal is to identify and celebrate future leaders, build a community of interest and foster talent,” said Deloitte Wealth Management Leader Neil Brown as he addressed the 240 senior wealth management leaders who attended the first of the Leadership Lunch series for the year.

“The awards program encourages the ‘future leader’ talent to challenge conventions and come up with creative ideas that might shed new light on the hot topics of the industry,” he said.

The four areas selected for focus this year are:

  1. Improving customer experience
  2. Using regulatory change for benefit
  3. Insulating against the economic impacts of an ageing population and
  4. Leveraging the digital revolution.

John Brogden, CEO of the Financial Services Council, who addressed the audience “In Defence of Superannuation” said: “As our $1.9 trillion industry continues to grow, assisting young professionals mature into future leaders becomes increasingly important.

“Our award combines the fresh ideas of youth with the experience and wisdom of our senior executives and mentors who bring their knowledge of the industry to the challenge.”

Kim Cohen, a Senior Product Manager at BT Financial Group who won a round the world trip last year to spend time with a Deloitte global leader, said the program delivered networking opportunities, intellectual challenge and ability to spend time with senior people in the organisation. She said: “If you’re passionate about taking the initiative and you’re up for a challenge, you will reap the rewards.”

Eligibility criteria

The Award program is open to current employees of Financial Services Council Full Member companies, APRA, ASIC and AUSTRAC. Participants must be 30 years or under as at 1 January 2013 and be permanent residents of Australia. Participants must have the support of their CEO and a mentor of senior management level from within their organisation.

Prizes

Deloitte will award the overall winner an overseas trip, including four nights’ accommodation in an appropriate city, where the winner will meet with and obtain insights from a Deloitte global leader. The winner will also receive a complimentary registration to the Financial Services Council Annual Conference to be held in August 2014.

Judging: Judging will take place throughout September and October 2013. Finalists and the winner will be announced at the Financial Services Council Deloitte Leadership Series Lunch in late October 2013.
