David is the Leader of the Deloitte National Tax group. David has over 25 years of experience in corporate and international tax. This has covered a wide range of matters, from inbound investment and divestment, outbound structuring, mergers and acquisitions, to initial public offerings, cross border hybrid structures and corporate restructurings. David’s industry experience includes the consumer and industrial market sector, including energy and resources, as well as investment funds and funds management.
David has helped shape taxation policy, appearing before Senate committees on legislative amendments dealing with capital gains tax and non-tax residents. David has also a member of various consultation groups working with Treasury and the ATO.
David has worked variously in Malaysia (1 year), Singapore (3 years) and most recently, for a number of years in New York where he established the Australian desk in the Deloitte international tax group. The New York role was principally focussed on US outbound investment into Australia, variously by US corporates and US managed hedge funds and private equity funds.
David has presented and written papers on numerous topics, including tax consolidation, tax treaties and the impact of tax treaties on fiscally transparent entities.
