Beyond the books: Building my career at Deloitte

A journey from university classrooms to real-world innovation

Stepping out of university and into the professional world is a leap—one filled with excitement, nerves, and a lot of questions. I remember the day I joined Deloitte US-India Offices, like it was yesterday. My heart was pounding with anticipation: What possibly my first project be? Would I be able to keep up? Could I really make a difference here? The idea of working on cutting-edge projects—especially those involving machine learning and generative AI—was exhilarating, but I knew there possibly be a steep learning curve.

Learning to swim: Facing new challenges

Transitioning from data analytics, my comfort zone at university, into the more technical world of data engineering was my biggest challenge. Suddenly, I was learning new tools, tackling more technical tasks, and thinking in new ways. It wasn’t always easy, but Deloitte’s efficient training and the willingness of senior colleagues to offer advice made certain differences. Their guidance helped me push through the tough moments and keep improving every day.

Finding my crew: Building connections

I efficiently learned that strong work-relationships are one of the keys to accomplishments at Deloitte. I made it a point to connect with teammates and mentors, participate in discussions, and ask for feedback. Attending organizational events and joining internal groups helped me expand my network and learn from others’ journeys. Staying curious and open to learning helped me form fine working relationships that have been crucial to my growth.

Making waves: Real-world impact

One project that really stood out to me was in the healthcare field, where we used advanced AI tools. My team created smart computer programs that could promptly help find and organize information from huge amounts of data. I got to use my new technical skills to help build these programs. Seeing how this technology could help determine real problems for people was a big learning moment for me—and something I’m really proud of early in my career.

Charting a new course: Evolving perspectives

Looking back, the analytical thinking skills and basic data science knowledge I gained at university were valuable. And being at Deloitte taught me so much more, especially about new tools, coding, and collaborating within a team. The broad training and mentorship I received inspired me to think about leadership roles in AI and data-driven insights. Now, I’m more committed than ever to continuous learning and innovation to keep elevating my campus to Deloitte journey ahead.

Passing the torch: Advice for new graduates

If you’re just starting out at Deloitte, here’s my advice: “Stay open to learning and be ready to adapt”. Take full advantage of the training and mentorship available. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or reach out to your team. Every challenge is a chance to learn and grow, so stay positive and keep moving forward.

Looking ahead: What’s next?

I’m really looking forward to what’s next. I want to learn even more about using advanced AI in real-life situations, particularly in healthcare and other areas that help people. My goal is to support new projects that use the latest AI technology and to help guide others as they learn. The idea of working on new projects ,that can make a real difference is what motivates me for the year ahead.
