For the Adoption Champion category, Deloitte was recognized for its work with Petrobras, a Brazilian corporation working with mission-critical industrial equipment to run operations at the ultra-deep waters of the Buzios field reservoir. The company lacked real-time insight and transparency into the asset management process and value chain to make informed decisions and resulting equipment failures saw impacts on employee morale and performance.

Together, Deloitte and Petrobras sought to enhance operational efficiencies with proactive, preventative maintenance and adapt the asset management process to meet regulatory requirements and contribute to decarbonization. But how?

As the lead system integrator for the Petrobras #tranS4mar initiative, Deloitte supported Petrobras’ business transformation with SAP S/4HANA. The solution is two-pronged, utilizing the SAP IAM and SAP Asset Strategy and Performance Management (ASPM) system to mitigate the negative effects from failures, and SAP Predictive Asset Insights (PAI) to track assets in real-time. By adapting their asset management process, Petrobras’ assets and data now work together to achieve transformational reliability prediction and mobility in tracking their 83,000 pieces of equipment at one deep water reservoir.

“Helping with the optimisation of the predictive analysis of the oil rigs assets life cycle of Petrobas, the project gained traction in an initial pilot, and demonstrated further success with numerous, large-scale Petrobras drilling rigs implementations. It was an extremely challenging project showing that the pioneering spirit and investment in cutting edge technologies is in the DNA, and in the collaboration between Deloitte, Petrobras, and SAP.”

Awarded in the Business Innovator category, Deloitte’s work with Carl Zeiss AG solved for the challenge of modernizing amid a competitive and rapidly changing manufacturing environment. Carl Zeiss AG (ZEISS) is a large research-oriented enterprise that distributes optical products globally, serving four segments, including: Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Quality & Research, Medical Technology, and Consumer Markets. As a result of ZEISS’s highly regulated manufacturing environment, the company relied on paper-based documentation types causing cost and effort strain, verification hurdles and poor environmental impact.

The Deloitte team was tasked with managing the transformation of the completely paper-based documentation process to a fully automated system, while also improving visibility into every stage of manufacturing.  This innovative program worked to utilize Industry 4.0 practices that integrate Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) in the cloud and smart manufacturing technologies. With a multi-plant pilot program, ZEISS rolled out the SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud (DMC) across production lines, starting with its Meditec division. The new digital automation solution delivers a high level of production efficiency and regulatory compliance, automating data collection from machines and operators, measuring environmental controls with precision, producing digital documentation to eliminate paper consumption, and providing an accessible single source of data.
