Rapid technological advancement warranted the need to invest in digital technologies in manufacturing even before the arrival of COVID-19, as companies struggled to improve production and replace legacy systems.

Decarbonisation has become a global imperative and a priority for governments, companies and society at large which, in turn, are making commitments and increasing efforts to close the gap to net-zero emissions. To realise the ambition, progress needs to be made particularly in the harder-to-abate industries – industries that have long asset lifespans, high energy dependency, and complexity of electrification – which represent 30 percent of global CO2 emissions.

Decarbonisation has become a global imperative and a priority for governments, companies, and society at large. This report is the third in a series by Deloitte and Shell, exploring the decarbonisation of harder-to-abate sectors. This research outlines the current state of the aviation sector, identifies the barriers to decarbonisation readiness, and proposes solutions and a flight plan to accelerate decarbonisation in the sector.

The 2015 Paris Agreement marked an historic milestone in the transition to a climate-neutral world. Power grids are critical to enabling this energy transition, as they are key for energy demand electrification and renewable integration in the power system. Eurelectric, a number of Distribution System Operators (DSO), power utilities associations, and E.DSO, supported by Monitor Deloitte, developed this study to assess power grid investments required for the energy transition in Europe and to develop policy and regulatory recommendations.
