Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) market is evolving from a niche segment into a strategic component of the country’s broader industrial and energy transition agenda. Supported by a growing policy framework, expanding domestic manufacturing ambitions, and increasing investment across the EV value chain, the market is attracting automotive players. As vehicle availability, charging infrastructure, and consumer exposure continue to expand, the sector is entering a new phase of scale, competition, and consumer visibility.

Drawing on findings from Deloitte’s 2026 Global Automotive Consumer Study, this article explores how Indonesian consumers evaluate EVs across four key dimensions—economic considerations, charging infrastructure, brand and ownership experience, and sustainability—highlighting the opportunities and challenges shaping the next phase of EV adoption in Indonesia.
