Stuart Francis

Private Health and Life Sciences Leader

I love exploring the possibilities that arise from ‘both/and’ conversations: strategic problem-solving. I am an experienced management and health care consultant, comfortable working at senior levels, facilitating and supporting leaders through change. I tend to be imaginative, skilled at synthesizing ideas and facts, contextual, and ambiguity tolerant. I am also a brainstormer, visual, and a big picture thinker.

Aligning capability with intent is core to achieving outcomes. In healthcare today leading the system rather than just being a part of the system, opens up true innovation. Organisational design needs to align strategic intent with practicalities of process and resource. Understanding what it is to lead in a complex adaptive system opens up new possibilities. Challenging and shaping the work environment, bringing the people as well as the organisation with you.

It is only through genuine collaboration will the system enable better health and wellbeing outcomes for the community. I enjoy facilitating governance and collaboration between organisations to better transform systems to address the wider determinants of health and wellbeing. I have led strategy, improvement and change management for health service transformation programmes within the health systems of New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom.

I enjoy creating learning environments that bring insight and new ways of thinking and behaving to participants. I help lead the Change Collaborative, our premier leadership development service that in particular helps clinical leaders and health managers become more confident, calm and effective. I am a Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, a member of the New Zealand Institute of Health Management and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. I am the New Zealand Assistant Honorary Editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Health Management.
