As a data scientist with a love of learning languages and a special interest in Natural Language Processing (NLP), I strongly believe in the power of communication to drive business impact and foster connections. Having recently completed my studies in Data Science and Modern Languages at Te Herenga Waka/Victoria University of Wellington, I bring a wide range of experience in NLP research to my work. I have used a variety of computational techniques to investigate topics such as the evolution of te reo Māori usage in New Zealand mainstream media. I enjoy collaborating to find creative technical solutions to language-based problems, and I am always on the lookout for the next opportunity to expand my skillset in this area.
I am also passionate about empowering others to grow their capabilities. As a tutor of Data Science and Spanish at university, I identified a range of strategies to increase student understanding, both at the individual and group level. At Deloitte, I have also become involved in organising mentoring circles for women in tech in Wellington, helping to lift up other wāhine in this space.
Outside of work, you can find me learning to salsa dance, experimenting with new recipes or doing yoga. I continue to dedicate time to expanding my language skills (I speak four and am currently learning a fifth!) as I believe that learning languages bridges gaps, and brings valuable understanding of different cultures and perspectives.
