Navigating the European Deforestation Regulation for a greener future

The European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is an EU initiative aimed at preventing deforestation linked to products placed on its market. It promotes responsible sourcing and sustainability, requiring organisations to prove their supply chains do not contribute to forest loss.

Key update

The European Commission has published the long-awaited simplification review of the revised EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This review establishes future implementation measures and provides stakeholders with enhanced clarity through a comprehensive package including a report to the European Parliament and the Council, updated guidance documentation and FAQs, a draft delegated act on product scope, and an updated implementing act on the Information System.

Four steps towards EUDR compliance

Step 1: Impact Assessment

Gain insight into EUDR relevance and scope.

Determine whether products fall in scope of EUDR.
Identify and map relevant supply chains (countries) to gather insight in EUDR obligations.
Determine EUDR roles as trader or operator (importer/exporter).
Assess contracts in the light of EUDR information requirements and legality assessments.

Perform a data gap assessment: Identify data requirements.

Define the future state data model: Process the EUDR requirements to develop a data model.
