Marc Alden
CEO, Deloitte
Marc is the Chief Executive of Deloitte in Malta and is responsible for its strategic direction, delivering value to clients and making an impact in the community.
Marc’s career with Deloitte spans over 20 years, practicing principally in the field of taxation. He has worked with clients across a number of industry sectors, advising on their cross border transactions and operations. Marc has been a Director at Deloitte since 2004, during which time he led Deloitte Malta's Tax Business for a period of six years. Marc continues to be responsible for leading significant client relationships and engaging with stakeholders. Marc is also a member of the executive committee of Deloitte Central Mediterranean.
David Delicata
Director, Audit & Assurance, Deloitte
David joined Deloitte in 1992 following his graduation in accountancy from the University of Malta. David, who is a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants, has led several audit and related assignments covering a wide range of national and international clients operating in different fields. David is an in-house trainer on International Financial Reporting Standards and auditing techniques and has in the past lectured students in preparation for their professional accounting exams.
Michael Warrington
CEO, AX Group
Michael Warrington is a highly experienced executive who has worked across several industries over the course of his 40+ year career. Michael is a Certified Public Accountant, a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants, and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in the United Kingdom. He currently serves as CEO for AX Group, one of Malta’s leading diversified corporations operating chiefly in construction, development, healthcare, and hospitality. He serves as a non-executive director on a number of local and international listed and regulated entities.
Anne Marie Tabone
CFO, Farsons Group
Ms Anne Marie Tabone is a Certified Public Accountant with vast experience in the insurance industry having been a leading member of management within Malta’s largest insurance group, Middlesea Group. Throughout her professional career she has developed strong managerial, organisational, financial and communication skills, in addition to a deep understanding of finance, in depth knowledge of the insurance sector, risk management, regulatory environment, investor and customer requirements. A graduate from the University of Malta, Ms Tabone has held directorships in various companies and organisations and she has been a member of several corporate governance bodies. She joined Farsons Group in 2017.
Izabela Banas
CFO, MeDirect
Izabela joined MeDirect on 3rd June 2024. She has 25 years' experience in finance at large corporations and 17 years in financial services. She is a certified Lean Sigma Black Belt. Previous positions include CFO of Bank of Valletta, CFO of HSBC Private Bank, EMEA, and various senior management roles in finance at Credit Suisse, Willis Towers Watson, and General Electric.
Antoine Carabott
Director, Audit & Assurance, Deloitte
Antoine holds the position of Director at Deloitte Malta within the Audit & Assurance business. He is mainly involved in the audit of both national and international groups and companies. Antoine has more than thirteen years’ practical knowledge and audit experience in various industries including pharmaceutical, healthcare, construction, port operations, real estate, renewable energy, online gaming, the construction industry, investment entities, real estate and shipping.
Antoine has also participated in a short-term secondment at Deloitte Aberdeen office, where he was involved in a variety of audit assignments of oil and gas companies. He was also assigned to other overseas assignments for some of the firm’s clients operating in central Europe.
In 2016, he was assigned the responsibility of the implementation by Deloitte Malta of the latest audit software and has been holding since then the role of Lead SuperUser within Deloitte Malta. As part of this process, he was also responsible for the co-ordination of training as well as delivery of training to all the staff within the audit department. In September 2018, Antoine was also appointed as Audit Learning Leader for Deloitte Malta.
Antoine Fenech
Director, Audit & Assurance, Deloitte
Antoine has been part of the Audit & Assurance Business at Deloitte since September 2012.
Antoine’s main area of focus is Assurance related projects including ESG Reporting and Assurance, Internal Control GAP analysis, IFRS training to middle and senior management, impact assessments and implementation projects across all industries in relation to IFRS 15, IFRS 9 and IFRS 16, ERP/EPM software implementations and Electronic Single European Format (ESEF) Directive audit and advisory. Antoine has been involved with a number of large projects within the Financial Services, Construction, Retail and Distribution and Aviation sectors.
He is also responsible for Statutory Audits, mainly within the Financial Services Industry, with a diverse portfolio that over the years included equity listed entities in Malta, insurance entities, investment management companies, pension schemes and pension administrators.
In September 2015, Antoine started a 24 month secondment with Deloitte in London, providing audit and advisory services to a client base of multi-national, FTSE and national insurance and insurance related services entities. Antoine also completed the internal PCAOB accreditation requirements and worked on the audit of a US Listed insurance advisory and broking company, taking the lead on SOX 404 reporting at group level.
Antoine was also part of the insurance technical team within Deloitte's London office providing a range of services to advisory clients including detailed impact and readiness assessments on IFRS 15 and IFRS 16. He acted as a technical accountant for one of the UK’s largest insurance intermediaries. Antoine also worked on an IPO readiness assessment of a leading life insurer in London.
Craig Schembri
Director, Tax
Craig is the leader of Deloitte Malta’s Corporate Direct Tax Compliance Team, and Tax – Mergers and Acquisitions.
Craig joined Deloitte Malta’s tax department in 2003 and was highly involved in Deloitte’s Corporate Direct Tax Compliance Team for a number of years. He currently works on various advisory and compliance projects mainly relating to corporate groups’ shareholding and operational restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions.
Matteo Michele Musi
Transfer Pricing Leader, Deloitte
Matteo joined the Tax Business at Deloitte Malta in 2024, where he is Transfer Pricing Leader.
Matteo brings with him over 20 years’ experience in advising multinational enterprises, private equity firms and corporate clients on transfer pricing analysis and planning, business restructuring and value chain transformation (principal model), as well as Advance Pricing Agreement (APA), Arbitration Convention Procedure (AC) and Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP) negotiations.
Matteo has vast experience in cross-border tax matters, corporate reorganisation, tax due diligence and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). This includes a relevant amount of structuring deal related services for corporates and private equity firms.
Matheo has considerable expertise serving both corporate and private equity client in the following industries: Technology, Gaming, Chemical & Pharmaceutical, Automotive, Fashion & Luxury, and Renewable Energy
Past projects include (but are not limited to): Transfer pricing policy design; value chain transformation; transfer pricing audit and negotiation assistance (enquiry and investigation); permanent establishment analysis and risk management; APA and MAP procedure; debt to equity structure analysis; principal model; IP Principal model, and treasury location study.
Matteo was appointed to the position of Tax Director at Deloitte Malta, with effect from 1 June 2024.
Ylenia Caruana
Senior Manager, Audit & Assurance, Deloitte
Ylenia joined Deloitte in 2022. She brings with her 11 years of work experience within the public sector, starting off as diplomat, and further specialising in EU affairs. She has extensive experience in public policy development and stakeholder consultation. Throughout her career within the public sector, Ylenia worked within the Environment, Climate Change and Sustainability space. She was responsible for the coordination of researching, developing and implementing public policies within this space, at a national level. More specifically, she worked on assessing the Impact Assessments of EU Commission proposals, whilst understanding the bearing such proposals would have on the relevant industries, carried out stakeholder consultations, and coordinated positions to be taken during negotiations, at EU Council meetings and bilateral meetings with the EU Commission. Ylenia has extensive experience acting as Malta’s representative at EU and UN level meetings relating to environment and sustainability, and even co-chaired two Council Working Parties, during Malta’s EU Council Presidency of 2017.
At Deloitte, Ylenia manages the ESG team that assists clients with their ESG needs, be it the development of an ESG strategy, to assisting in achieving compliance with ESG legislation. She also assists multiple service lines with issues relating to sustainability, in relation to climate and decarbonisation, social and governance issues. Ylenia also assists in the coordination of Malta’s contribution Deloitte’s internal sustainability commitments as set out by ‘WorldClimate’ – Deloitte’s strategy and commitments to drive responsibly climate choices within our orgnisation and beyond, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Albert Bonello
AX Group CFO
Albert Bonello’s career began in the banking industry, during which time he pursued a degree from the Malta Institute of Accountants/ACCA. In 2007, he joined AX Group as Financial Controller, where his primary responsibilities involved overseeing the accounting and finance functions.
By 2016, he was appointed as Group CFO, responsible for ensuring the overall financial strategy and direction of the Group. His role included managing the Group’s funding structure and liquidity, implementing new digital solutions to drive efficiency and growth, directing the Investor Relations Office, and serving as a member of the Executive Team. He is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) and a Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
In 2023, Mr Bonello was promoted to Managing Director Finance and Administration at AX Group, where he continues to play a key role in shaping the Group's overall business strategy and aligning the finance and administration functions with its long-term vision. He remains committed to driving the Group's success through strong financial leadership and strategic planning.
Kate de Cesare
Chief Sustainability Officer, Eden Leisure Group
Kate de Cesare, Chief Sustainability Officer at the Eden Leisure Group, brings extensive experience in leadership to the role. With a background in marketing management followed by several years as Chief Operations Officer, she holds a BA in Communications from Richmond University and an MA in Marketing Communications from Westminster University in London before receiving further training in sustainability at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, focusing on Business Sustainability Management and Business & reaching Net Zero in business.
Kate is the Chairperson of the Eden Leisure Foundation, and a stalwart advocate for the environment, leading CSR initiatives within the company for many years and establishing the ESG wing within the group. Beyond her corporate role, she serves on the board of the National Agency for the Performing Arts, reflecting her commitment to community and the arts. As CSO, Kate blends sustainability, community engagement, and a passion for the arts, making a dynamic impact on both corporate and cultural fronts.
Gianluca Busuttil
Senior Manager, Tax, Deloitte Malta
Gianluca is a warranted lawyer forming part of the Tax team at Deloitte Malta, having also completed the Malta Institute of Taxation’s Course on Taxation. His main areas of specialisation are gambling law, AML/CFT law, commercial and corporate law, insolvency law, and data privacy law. Before joining Deloitte Malta in 2019, Gianluca worked at a traditional Maltese law firm for four years.
Since joining Deloitte, Gianluca has provided regulatory advice on a number of high-profile client engagements, including the formulation of regulatory policy and related work in the fields of corporate and insolvency law, and AML/CFT regulation as specifically applicable to gaming operators.
Matthew Xuereb
Director, Strategy, Risk & Transactions Advisory, Deloitte
Matthew joined Deloitte Financial Advisory in 2011. Prior to Deloitte, Matthew read for a MSc in Finance at Imperial College Business School after gaining a Bachelors in Economics from the University of Malta. Matthew has gained significant experience in EU Banking Industry through his involvement in the engagement of providing advisory services to MFSA and ECB in relation to the Asset Quality Review and Stress Test of the systemic banks in Malta.
Luca Pace
Senior Manager, Tax, Deloitte Malta
Luca is a Senior Manager within Deloitte Malta’s Tax business, and forms part of the Global Employer Services team, which focuses on individual client tax requirements as well as on employer’s tax related matters in connection with their global workforces.Having joined Deloitte in 2015 upon successful completion of his studies, Luca spent a number of years within the international tax team, having been involved in a number of advisory engagements for clients across a number of industries, whilst specialising on automatic exchange of information.
Sarah Curmi
Technology & Transformation Business Leader, Deloitte
Sarah has been with Deloitte for over 30 years and is currently the Consulting Business Leader at Deloitte Malta.
During her time with Deloitte, she has gained significant experience providing a wide range of services to entities operating in a variety of sectors both locally and overseas. Her engagements over the years have primarily been within the Audit & Assurance business, however she has extensive experience working within the banking sector, having served as Lead Client Service Partner for the largest local bank for over 15 years.
Sarah has been a partner since 2008 and has previously served as the Audit & Assurance Business Leader for Deloitte Malta. Over the years, Sarah has led the audits of a number of public and private entities engaged in a variety of industries but has specialised in Financial Services with clients encompassing insurance, banking and asset management. She is also responsible for managing a number of client relationships at Deloitte Malta and, as a result, has significant experience in the oversight and delivery of a broad range of service offerings.
She also sits on Deloitte Malta’s Operations Committee, a position she has occupied since 2014.
Sarah was appointed to the position of Consulting Business Leader of Deloitte Malta, with effect from 1 June 2024.
