26 August 2024 - Foreign nationals residing or intending to reside in Iraq are now required to schedule their mandatory blood tests through the government's online platform, 'urportal'. This change eliminates the option of in-person scheduling, except for Iraqi Kurdistan, where appointments must still be made in person.
As a reminder, foreign nationals living in Iraq are required to undergo a blood test every three months, and newcomers must take a test within ten days of their arrival. The test results are valid for a three-month period, irrespective of whether the individual leaves and re-enters Iraq. If a foreign national's blood test validity expires while they are abroad, they must retake the test within ten days of their return to Iraq.
The tests include screening for HIV and Hepatitis B for all foreign nationals. Additionally, nationals from most African and certain Asian countries, including India, Malaysia, and Pakistan, are also required to be tested for Malaria. Positive results may result in deportation.
Deloitte’s view
This digital transformation in Iraq's immigration process is a significant step towards streamlining procedures for foreign nationals. However, it is crucial for individuals to be aware of these changes and to ensure they comply with the new online scheduling system. Deloitte will continue to monitor these developments and provide updates to our clients to help them navigate these changes effectively.
