New Employment Contract Authentication for Current Employees

View all the latest GES news and insights

10 May 2024 – The Ministry of Labour (MOL) in Qatar has revamped the employment contract authentication process and updated its portal to facilitate these changes. Residence permit holders sponsored by Qatari companies registered within the mainland jurisdiction must now register with the National Authentication System (NAS) to authenticate their employment contracts.

Historically, the NAS used to verify the digital identity of individuals and companies from the users of the e-government services, in addition to activating the single sign-on feature for electronic services by creating a password and only one username.

Previously, only authorized Qatari employer representatives could register employment contracts on the MOL portal. The new process now allows existing employees to digitally verify their signatures via the NAS, eliminating the need for physical signatures. However, new employees, who do not have a residence permit with their signature, must still provide physical signatures and upload their contracts to the portal.

Deloitte’s view

The introduction of the new process to authenticate the employment contracts of current employees is a positive one, which aims to streamline and shorten the employment contract registration process by eliminating the need for physical signatures with digital verification in the NAS.

Employers can expect possible initial slowdowns stemming from the complexities involved in the deployment of a new online system and subsequent system upgrades.

We expect digitization of other Qatar immigration services in the future which will have a positive impact on the application timelines and process.
