Professional Verification scheme announced for select Sri Lanka nationals

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is expanding its Professional Verification scheme to include nationals of Sri Lanka. This scheme has already been phased in for nationals of Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh since January 2021.

The scheme requires applicants for certain technical professions to have their skills evaluated in their home country before they can apply for a work visa. The evaluation process includes both theoretical and practical exams.

Successful applicants will receive a certificate that allows them to apply for a work visa at the Saudi consulate.

Deloitte’s view

The implementation of the Professional Verification Scheme is expected to bring in more qualified talent to the Saudi labor market, but it will also result in longer end-to-end immigration processing timelines for candidates from the select countries.
