Updates to Kuwait’s Immigration Procedures

The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait has announced significant temporary measures for visa holders amid current extraordinary circumstances:

  • Automatic Visa Extensions: All types of visit visas that have expired or are set to expire will be automatically extended by one month starting from 28 February 2026. This process does not require a visit to the Residency Affairs departments, and there are no fees or penalties during this period.
  • Absence Extensions for Residents Abroad: Residents who are currently outside Kuwait and have exceeded their allowable absence period will receive an automatic extension of three months. This extension is also processed automatically without any associated costs or penalties.
  • These measures apply exclusively to visas and absence cases effective from 28 February 2026 onwards. Any cases that expired prior to this date are not covered under this announcement unless additional guidance is provided by the relevant authorities.

Deloitte’s view

These proactive measures by the Ministry of Interior are expected to greatly ease the administrative and financial burdens on visa holders and residents impacted by the current situation. The extensions provide our clients the flexibility needed to manage their residency and mobility concerns effectively during these exceptional times. However, it is crucial for clients to stay informed about any further policy changes, as additional extensions may be granted depending on the evolving conditions. As always, Deloitte is committed to providing updated insights and assistance to help navigate these developments efficiently
