19 August 2024 - The State of Kuwait has revised its immigration policy, now permitting foreign nationals without a university degree to sponsor their spouse and children under 14 years old, provided that they meet other qualifying criteria, including a minimum monthly salary of KWD 800. This is a significant shift from the previous policy, which necessitated most sponsors to possess a university degree to be eligible for dependent sponsorship.
Foreign nationals wishing to sponsor children aged between 14 and 18 still need a university degree relevant to their profession in Kuwait. However, foreign employees in specific sectors such as engineering, medicine, and higher education can continue to sponsor family residence visa applications for their spouses and children (including those aged 14 to 18), irrespective of their academic qualifications.
Deloitte’s view
This policy modification, aimed at simplifying the process for certain foreign workers to bring their families to Kuwait, could potentially enhance Kuwait's appeal as a destination for international talent. It may also contribute to the retention of existing foreign talent in the country.
