Kingdom of Bahrain Immigration news - Platinum Residency Permit for long-term residents

16 July 2023 - On 26 June 2023, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, issued Edict (47) of 2023, granting a Platinum Residence Permit to long-term residents. 

According to the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs, foreign nationals who have resided in the Kingdom for 15 years or longer are eligible to apply for a Platinum Residence Permit, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • They must have maintained good conduct and should not have any previous convictions for felonies or misdemeanours that involve a breach of honour or trust, regardless of whether they have undergone rehabilitation.
  • They must earn a basic salary of BHD 4,000 or more per month during the last five years of their residency.

The authorities have not yet provided any information on the Platinum Residence application process, the validity of the permit, or the implementation date.

The introduction of the Platinum Residence Permit is a positive step in the continued development of the Kingdom's immigration system and aims to improve investment in the commercial sector.

Once implemented, holders of the Platinum Residence Permit will be allowed to own property in areas that were previously restricted to Bahraini nationals.
