Expanding on its annual State of AI in the Enterprise report, the Deloitte AI InstituteTM has introduced the first wave of a quarterly survey at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting. This survey delves into how the actions taken now will shape the trejectory of how Gen AI adoption unfolds and if its benefits are fully realised. 

The State of Generative AI in the Enterprise: Now decides next’ draws insights from over 2,800 Director to C-suite level respondents across six industries and 16 countries. The ongoing survey takes the pulse of Gen AI adoption, providing insights into current trends, while monitoring evolving attitudes and activities. It offers practical insights to assist leaders in making well-informed decisions about AI policy, strategy, investment, and deployment.

Key insights from the report:

  1. Excitement about generative AI remains high, and transformative impacts are expected in the next three years.
  2. Many leaders are confident about their organization’s generative AI expertise.
  3. Organizations that report very high expertise in generative AI tend to feel more positive about it—but also more pressured and threatened.
  4. Current generative AI efforts remain more focused on efficiency, productivity and cost reduction than on innovation and growth.
  5. Most organizations are primarily relying on off-the-shelf generative AI solutions.
  6. Talent, governance and risk are critical areas where generative AI preparedness is lacking.
  7. Leaders see significant societal impacts on the horizon.
  8. Leaders are looking for more regulation and collaboration globally.

The next wave of surveys will continue to track the integration of Gen AI in the enterprise, with a deeper focus on innovation, enterprise transformation, and trust.
