Approaching the interview

Case and scenario interviews help us assess a candidate across multiple dimensions, and we look for answers that project clear thinking, practical judgment, and a professional demeanor. Apply this five-step approach while working through the case or scenario interview:

Begin by clarifying the problem to ensure you have a complete and accurate picture. Asking thoughtful questions early on helps eliminate uncertainty and demonstrates your ability to approach challenges with precision. This foundational step enables you to structure your thinking effectively and deliver practical, well-informed solutions that align with the client’s priorities.

Take the time to uncover and challenge any assumptions that may influence the problem or potential solutions. By asking probing questions, you demonstrate critical thinking and ensure your analysis is grounded. This step helps avoid blind spots and supports the development of practical, well-rounded recommendations.

Clearly articulate the main issues and your key insights based on the information available. This helps to ensure alignment and demonstrates your ability to distil complex information into concise, actionable points. A well-structured summary reflects your analytical rigour and sets the stage for thoughtful recommendations.

Present clear, well-considered recommendations that directly stem from your analysis. Ensure your suggestions are practical, actionable, and aligned with the client’s objectives. This demonstrates your ability to translate insights into meaningful solutions that drive value and support informed decision-making.

Clearly articulate the recommended next steps, ensuring they are practical and actionable. Highlight the anticipated outcomes and the broader impact these actions will have on the business or client. This demonstrates your ability to think ahead, prioritise effectively, and communicate the value of your recommendations with clarity and confidence.

The Interview Process

A member of our recruitment team will carefully review your application and may reach out for a brief phone conversation to explore your background, motivation for the role, and salary expectations.

This stage is typically conducted by a recruiter or hiring manager, focusing on your experience, skills, and alignment with Deloitte’s culture. Following the interview, you will be invited to complete an assessment designed to further evaluate your suitability for the role.

For many positions, you will be invited to tackle problem-solving exercises or case studies designed to assess your analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and sector expertise.

The final stage involves discussions with senior leaders, partners, and department heads to explore your strategic approach, leadership potential, and how well you embody Deloitte’s values.

The hiring team carefully evaluates all feedback before reaching a decision. Successful candidates are typically extended an offer within 1 to 2 weeks following the final interview.
