Russell has more than 10 years of experience in financial advisory and corporate turnaround. His most recent experience centers on stressed and distressed health care provider financial restructuring advisory services, including assisting providers in the areas of financial statement analysis, financial projection development, liquidity and cash management, M&A support, financial modeling, stakeholder negotiations, and bankruptcy preparation. Russell has represented private and public companies, not-for-profit institutions, providers, secured creditors, bond insurance companies, and other related parties.

Russell notable distressed consulting/reorganization experience includes:

  • Led onsite restructuring advisory services for Virginia United Methodist Homes of Williamsburg Inc., prior to and during the company’s Chapter 11 restructuring, focusing on cash flow development and reporting, financial forecasting, DIP financing negotiations, liquidity management, claims management, and broad-based bankruptcy administrative reporting
  • Led onsite restructuring advisory services for Franciscan Communities St. Mary of the Woods and The Clare at Water Tower, prior to and during the companies’ Chapter 11 restructurings, focusing on cash flow development and reporting, and assisting the debtors’ legal counsel in administering all financial and reporting requirements of the Chapter 11 process
  • Led onsite chief restructuring officer (CRO) advisory services for a physician-owned specialty hospital in the southwest, serving as liaison with the senior lending group and advising the board on a workout/restructuring strategy
  • Drafted multiple, extensive due diligence reports regarding a $3 billion hospital system’s restructuring efforts

Russell also has experience providing professional services to a $600 million US retailer in Chapter 11, a $500 million multi-hospital health care system in Chapter 11, revisionary interest holders of a $300 million health care system in Chapter 11, a $150 million international mobile advertising company in Chapter 11, a $20 million hotel portfolio in Chapter 11, a $35 million media broadcasting company, a $25 million continuing care retirement community, an $85 million linen and garment rental business, and a $30 million continuing medical education company.

Certification

Russell holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, as well as inactive NASD licenses 7, 65, and 63. He is also a business division liaison of the Young Lawyers Committee of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; former board member and treasurer of the DFW Association of Young Bankruptcy Lawyers.
