Introduction

Tax on both local and global landscape has become complex owing to the substantial transformations driven by regulatory changes impacting tax administration, increasingly assertive tax authorities seeking to collect more taxes, emerging complex business models and transactions, and the call for greater transparency by multinational enterprises in the countries in which they operate. For these reasons, it is critical to keep abreast of the developments in tax policy and administration both locally and globally.

 In January 2024, Ethiopia issued Directive No. 981/2024 to provide rules on transfer pricing. Against this backdrop, we have organized our first edition of Transfer Pricing and International Tax Workshop, where we shall discuss the transfer pricing landscape in Ethiopia and key contemporary international tax issues impacting Ethiopian taxation. The workshop will also serve as a space to share insights and analysis of the latest developments and future trends in Ethiopia’s tax landscape. The workshop will focus on the following thematic areas:

• Transfer Pricing — Ethiopia published a Directive on transfer pricing rules early this year. We shall dive into the Directive to review the transfer pricing guidelines, compliance requirements, and the link with the best practice covered under the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Transfer Pricing Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and Tax Administrations. 
• International tax trends — There is a lot happening globally on the international tax front emanating from the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) reports with the recent focus being on the taxation of the digital economy. Experts will discuss the major international tax trends and their impact on businesses.
• Contemporary tax issues — In the recent past, Ethiopia has seen a significant inflow of foreign direct investments as the country continues to open up various sectors of the economy. We shall cover an overview of the contemporary tax issues and policy direction for the Ethiopian market that operators in the market need to know.
• Panel discussion — We shall have an engaging panel discussion on the Emerging Trends in Tax Administration & Revenue Collection in Eastern Africa. You will have an opportunity to interact with experts, policymakers, and tax administrators discussing the notable trends in tax policy and administration within the East African region. 

We have assembled a team of Deloitte’s tax experts in Ethiopia tax matters and external speakers to deliver value for this workshop. In addition, you will get a chance to connect with your peers in other companies to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
