A seasoned professional with over 17 years of experience in corporate reporting, Akinyemi Awodumila has established himself as a trusted advisor to leaders across industries in East Africa. His expertise encompasses capital market transactions, deals, restructurings, valuations, and complex financial reporting under IFRS, USGAAP, and IPSAS. He has vast experience in multiple industries namely Technology, Media, & Telecommunications (TMT) and Financial Services Industry (FSI).

Akinyemi has played a pivotal role in shaping ESG and sustainability reporting strategies for numerous institutions; ensuring that their financial disclosures align with global standards and best practices. His contributions have extended to finance transformation projects, where he has assisted organizations in optimizing business processes, implementing robust procedures, and adopting technology best practices.

Beyond his consulting engagements, Akinyemi is a prolific writer and speaker on corporate reporting topics. He has authored over 150 articles and penned a book titled "Deliberate: Financial Reporting in a Complex World," which delves into the intricacies of translating organizational complexities into reliable financial information for long-term competitiveness. His work has garnered acclaim from esteemed individuals, including the current global ACCA president and renowned academics.

Prior to joining Deloitte, Akinyemi served as an Associate Director at PwC Kenya, where he led a team of consultants across the East African region. He spearheaded sustainability and ESG reporting initiatives, guiding clients in formulating, and executing effective sustainability reporting strategies. During his time in Johannesburg, South Africa, he advised JSE top 40 organizations on the reporting impact of complex projects. His consulting expertise has also extended to top-tier financial services businesses in Lagos, Nigeria.

Education

Akinyemi holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrated Reporting from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from the Obafemi Awolowo University. His credentials include a Fellowship from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a certified public sector accountant (ICAEW IPSAS Certificate).

Interests

Akinyemi's passion for mentoring extends beyond his professional endeavors. He actively serves on the board of advisors for the mentorship academy of the accounting students association at the University of Nairobi. His commitment to fostering the next generation of accounting professionals underscores his dedication to the industry and its future.
