I really enjoy the variety in the role. No two days are the same. In tax you are required to work on multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
Tax law is constantly evolving and so it is important that we keep up to date with changes not only from an Irish tax perspective, but globally. I like the challenge this brings and being seen as a trusted advisor by my clients.
I did an internship in the tax department in the summer of my second year of college. I really liked the atmosphere and the culture of Deloitte as well as the work I was given as an intern which I found really interesting - particularly as I had no real knowledge of what work the tax department undertook.
I am a Partner in the corporate tax department. My area of specialism is aircraft leasing and finance which is a really interesting industry. On any given day I could be advising on the international tax implications of an aircraft acquisitions or providing advice on the establishment of a leasing platform.
My client portfolio also includes clients in the Pharma and Tech space so the diversity in the different clients I work with means you are constantly learning about different industries and how they operate.
There are plenty of activities to get involved in. Impact day happens every year whereby Deloitte staff volunteer in local projects. There are also numerous sports clubs to get involved in like tag rugby and running clubs.
Deloitte has played a key role in supporting my career goals. As a trainee I received a lot of support when sitting the AITI and ACA exams.
As a Partner, Deloitte have provided top quality training at each level of progression through the firm. The partners are always available to discuss where you see your career going and how best they can help you achieve your goals.
The challenging work, the great atmosphere and the people I have gotten to know.
