3+3 Tech Trends in 2024

In the age of generative artificial intelligence, it is more important than ever for companies to have an integrated business strategy, a solid technology foundation and a creative workforce. The 15th Deloitte Global Tech Trends Report, based on corporate best practice examples and executive opinion research, confirms this.

Budapest, 24 January 2024

The study details six emerging technology trends and helps business and technology leaders separate the important signals from the noise, discussing technology development as a means to revolutionize business.  The trends of "Elevating Forces" discuss the opportunities for breakout points, while the trends of "Grounding Forces" discuss the challenges of a solid foundation.

Elevating Forces

The history of IT has been a steady evolution of pioneering innovations in interaction, information, and computation, which together serve as the three enduring eternities of modern computing. Generative AI has been a catalyst for growth: since the technology's explosive emergence, most companies have been working to see how it can benefit them. The study presents several examples of how it's easier than you might think.

For example, web 3.0, geospatial computing and the industrial metaverse are all formulating now.  As the industrial metaverse evolves into an enterprise tool, spatial technologies are proliferating in industry applications. The trend is focused on reproducing real-world processes using data and artificial intelligence, and the advantages gained by the use of digital twin technologies are multiplying the efficiency of companies.

As machine intelligence solutions become more sophisticated, to use 'more brain than brawn' takes on new meaning.  By not only using mere brute force, businesses can increasingly get more out of their existing infrastructure, while improving it by adding the latest hardware to speed up processes. There will be some who will soon go beyond binary computing.

Grounding Forces

Existing systems and investments—represented by the business of technology, cyber and trust, and core modernization—need to integrate well with pioneering innovations so that businesses can seamlessly operate while they grow. This is the key to success, as shown by several examples in the Deloitte report.  A key element of this is a team of engineering experts.  A new focus is emerging for companies that are dedicated to attracting and retaining the best tech talent: developer experience, DevEx.

Protecting truth, real and validated data is also key: in the age of synthetic media, truth is priceless.  With the spreading of the use of artificial intelligence tools, impersonation and deception are now easier than ever, and leading organisations that are quick to adapt the technology are responding with a variety of regulations and technologies – the question is whether the proper and timely implementation of regulations will succeed in preventing fraud and reducing the number of incidents.

In the meantime, many companies are struggling with technology debt, but businesses that wish to be leaders in the future need to get rid of this gradually: they need to make the improvements that will allow them to successfully take advantage of new technologies.  This is how they can move into an era of total technological wellness.
