Indirect tax

Effective management of global trade decisions and obligations is an important factor in a global supply chain. Today, multinational groups must integrate their international trade processes into their overall business strategy.

The accelerating digitalisation of compliance and reporting obligations requires businesses to manage and report their global trade activities electronically. Real time self-assessments and control checks are the new standard. Our vision is to link the entire supply chain to one secure and centralised global trade management system that contains up-to-date customs and excise regulations and stimulates effective management.

Deloitte indirect tax specialists develop global trade automation strategies that identify opportunities for simplification and efficiency and manage the risks, and costs that accompany global trade management and reporting. These strategies can be integrated into and automated with Deloitte’s global trade software solutions to support compliance.

Deloitte’s modular customs compliance solution ‘TrackonTrade’ integrates with existing operational processes, ERP systems, and third parties to support businesses by automating European Union (EU) customs and excise procedures, processing the required data and documents, and optimising their global trade activities. The operational and logistics chains within an organisation must guide the associated global trade activities. TrackonTrade is directly connected to the customs authorities, port authorities and health authorities in various EU member states, supporting cross-border compliance and up-to-date content, such as regulations and tariffs.

TrackonTrade is aimed at integrating supply chains across borders with efficient flows of goods to, from, and within the EU. TrackonTrade is especially equipped in the flow of goods between the EU and the United Kingdom by automating the customs, excise and health formalities with a direct connection to the customs and port authorities in EU member states and the United Kingdom.

TrackonTrade has optional modules which enable it to be the centralised source that contains actual preferential origin status of purchased and produced items. TrackonTrade’s Origin Determination Module (ODM) can automatically perform the determination of origin of a produced item. This is done by (electronically) requesting the relevant origin statements from suppliers, using up-to-date Free Trade Agreements, and applying of the rules of origin to the provided Bills of Materials. Next to this determination, ODM is able to generate the relevant origin documents automatically and send these to customers or print statements on invoices.

This automatic determination process, and storing of (preferential) origin, lowers compliance costs and improves compliance due to its up-to-date origin content and automatic recalculation of origin. ODM also reduces the risk of incorrect origin determination and subsequent discussion with customs authorities.

TrackonTrade is delivered by Deloitte's Global Trade Advisory Practice (EMEA) as a complete service offering backed by specialised customs tax advisers for customs and excise advice and technology specialists for the electronic communication with customs authorities, maintenance, implementation and support of the solution.
