My Trainee Story: Jemina Viirret
Jemina Viirret graduated from Aalto School of Business with a major in Strategic Management in a Changing World in October 2024. She works at Monitor Deloitte, which is part of the Strategy, Risk and Transactions business unit.
Regular coaching sessions fostered my personal growth and development. We established personal goals and created a path to achieve them through training and project experience, ensuring continuous development. Additionally, working closely with clients provided an amazing opportunity for growth.
What made you apply for the trainee position at Deloitte?
I applied to Deloitte because I was looking for a more dynamic working environment, a steep learning curve and the opportunity to work on diverse projects. I am always curious to learn new things and enjoy having varied workdays. I was confident that a career in management consulting could offer me these experiences.
What expectations did you have for the trainee period?
My only expectation was to learn extensively, including developing my skillset and gaining more insight into management consulting and working on diverse projects. These expectations were definitely met! From the very beginning of my trainee period, I had the opportunity to work on two very different projects and even spent time at the client’s site – it was very exciting to see how things really work in practice. I am still incredibly grateful for my trainee period and everyone I had the chance to work with.
Describe what your typical workday consists of?
A typical workday consists of several meetings, such as client meetings, internal check-ups, coaching sessions or team meetings. Additionally, I usually spend time preparing various materials, including project and sales materials. At other times, I conduct different types of market research.
What has been the best thing about working at Deloitte?
Colleagues! We have amazing people working here and the highlights are always sharing lunch and coffee breaks with them. We also have excellent personal development programmes and a supportive coaching culture, which ensures continuous personal learning and provides you with people to support you in doing that.
