At Monitor Deloitte, Janette excels not only in project management but also in providing valuable strategic insight to clients. Nearly five years into a successful career with the strategy team, she is especially motivated by the variety in her work and the continuous development of her expertise.
My role has given me an excellent vantage point into various industries. I was already familiar with the tech side, but I had no prior exposure to industries such as manufacturing, retail, or banking and insurance before joining Deloitte.
I graduated with a master’s degree Aalto University School of Business in 2018, majoring in information and service management. My studies combined a customer-centric perspective with the commercial potential of technology. Towards the end of my academic path, I joined Vincit to help develop their business. For someone early in their career, it was an exceptional position, where my extensive responsibilities included tasks such as supporting international expansion and assisting with their public listing. Despite the fascinating role, I felt a desire to explore consulting, from which had piqued my interest already during my studies.
I have always found strategy to be an engaging field. When I saw an opening for an analyst position at Monitor Deloitte, I grew even more enthusiastic about a career in business strategy and consulting. There are many consulting firms, but Deloitte Monitor’s versatility was a key attraction that the hiring managers convincingly emphasized during my interview.
Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate that even routine tasks have their good sides. However, as a person with a constant drive to learn, I find the most energy in teamwork and pushing my boundaries. My growth-oriented role in consulting has been a great fit – I feel both skilled at my work and a valuable contributor to my organization and our clients.
You encounter variety and career opportunities from many perspectives. I always tell younger colleagues that they wouldn’t believe all they’ll experience and accomplish in just a few years.
In the early days of my career at Deloitte, I focused largely on data collection and analysis and had the opportunity to present findings to our team and clients. Over time, my responsibilities have expanded to include not only strategy work but also project and people management. This means closer collaboration with teams and clients, to build an understanding of various phenomena/themes and future opportunities through workshops and interviews.
We work with passion, which sometimes demands flexibility from us, but I deeply value that Deloitte does not have a rigid culture of hours tracking. For some, maintaining a precise rhythm is important, but for me, flexibility in work hours is highly appreciated, as it allows me to prioritize my well-being.
At Deloitte, work-life balance is flexible – I can go for a run on a beautiful day and continue working in the evening if I want to. Work can be organized and self-managed in a way that prevents burnout – though this, of course, requires strong self-leadership skills.
For our clients, digitalization and its business potential are still major themes, though they have become somewhat of a “new normal.” Recently, I have been working on transformative, market-shaping projects, including platform and ecosystem thinking and channel conversion, where clients in more traditional sectors explore new business models through digital and network-based means.
I have also enjoyed working with sustainability projects, particularly one for a consumer business[DC1] client that involved scenario-based future visioning. This project was especially memorable as we examined possibilities and challenges for consumer products over a 20–30-year horizon.
When I initially applied to Deloitte, I wanted to see if I would thrive as a consultant and whether I’d be good at it. Nearly five years later, I’m still surprised by how well this position has suited me – both in terms of the substance of the work and the organization. I find it hard to imagine finding this level of versatility elsewhere, which is why I see myself staying here for the long term. I also appreciate that Deloitte focuses on good leadership, which is something we discuss actively also in the public sphere.
In my opinion, important values, such as personal development and flexibility, are truly well implemented at Deloitte. For me, reaching a particular career level or partnership is not a goal in itself. As long as I continue to learn, thrive and enjoy my work, I will progress in my career and within the organization.

What you didn’t know about Janette: I wouldn’t call myself an adrenaline junkie, but I do love challenging myself and actively seek new experiences. For example, I’ve run a marathon, and last spring, I went skydiving in Dubai. I can highly recommend both!
