Agrofert has bought the Dutch company OCI Ammonia Holding from OCI Global for EUR 290 million. The main goal was acguisition of a terminal for importing ammonia in the port of Rotterdam.
Agrofert is the second-largest producer of nitrogen fertilizers, and ammonia is one of the basic raw materials for their production. With this acquisition, Agrofert has gained an alternative to European ammonia production which heavily depends on natural gas. The production is energy-intensive and in the long term faces fierce competition from the Middle East and Russia. The transaction includes warehouses with a capacity of 30,000 tons, which can be expanded to 90,000 tons, making the terminal the largest in the European Union. Agrofert will also acquire a distributor and trader of ammonia. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities and OCI Global shareholders and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
OCI Global is engaged in the production and distribution of fertilizers, feed, and fuels. The company, traded on the Euronext exchange in Amsterdam, is active in North America and Europe. Its main shareholder is Egypt's richest man, Nassef Saffiris. In 2024, the group's revenues amounted to $4 billion and EBITDA to $825 million.
