Lexum joins eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica

EssilorLuxottica has acquired the pan-European network of eye clinics Opterga, which includes the Czech-based Lexum network.

The British investment fund MidEuropa sold Opterga to EssilorLuxottica for approximately EUR 2 billion. Opterga operates more than 70 eye clinics and outpatient centers across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Poland. In the Czech Republic, it operated through the Lexum network, which runs 9 eye clinics and around ten outpatient centers. Lexum also operates 5 clinics in Slovakia.

In 2024, Lexum reported revenues of CZK 447 million and a profit of CZK 114 million. EssilorLuxottica is a global leader in vision care, eyewear manufacturing, and distribution. The group employs more than 190,000 people worldwide and has a market value of EUR 195 billion. In 2023, it recorded revenues of EUR 28 billion and a net profit of EUR 2.4 billion.

With the acquisition of Opterga, the group is strengthening its health-tech capabilities, combining Opterga’s surgical expertise with its own diagnostic technologies — aiming not only to treat eye conditions but also to prevent them. Another area of focus for EssilorLuxottica is smart eyewear. This year, the company acquired two tech start-ups in this field: one specializing in active noise cancellation and the other in retinal image projection.
