Leadership 4.0: Succeeding in a New Era of Globalization

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has held its Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland every January since 1971. The Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC), also known as Summer Davos, was established in 2007 as the foremost global gathering on science, technology and innovation, convening the next generation of fast-growing enterprises who are shaping the future of business and society, alongside leaders from major multinationals, government, media, academia and civil society. The AMNC is the foremost global summit on innovation and entrepreneurship, with more than 1,500 participants, 100 working sessions and community activities, as well as the opportunity to engage in several new Forum initiatives.

As a Strategic Partner of the WEF, Deloitte was again this year playing a pivotal role at the AMNC, participating in a series of panel discussions, workshops and industry partnerships as well as organizing special events for WEF delegates.

Amid fundamental changes in the global economy, this year's Annual Meeting of the Champions focused on Leadership 4.0, exploring how New Champions are gaining economic influence by disrupting and transforming industry models. The main topics were:

New Champions Dinner

On the evening of 2 July, 'Deloitte hosted a WEF affiliated panel dinner with clients and special guests. The dinner theme was 'AI and the enterprise: responding to a new digital reality'. 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) presented enterprises with tremendous opportunities to generate better insights and improve efficiency, but with this came a range of dilemmas within the shared, digital economy that needed to be considered.

As AI strategies was developed how do enterprises harnessed the potential of AI while being ahead of the risks? How would enterprises foster new innovations but also protected digital citizens through agile AI policies?

Deloitte on the AMNC stage

Cybercrime 2025: Disruptive Technology and the Future of Cybersecurity

The global cyber-attack surface was both widening and deepening as artificial intelligence, next generation networks, the Internet of Things as well as the convergence of digital and physical infrastructure altered the digital landscape. On 1 July at 10:30am-11:30am, Chris Verdonck, Cyber Leader, Belgium and Deloitte representative to WEF Centre for Cybersecurity at AMNC facilitated the discussion on how these disruptive technologies would reshape cybersecurity threats and risks and fostered debate on how to respond to these challenges.

The Quest for Leadership 4.0

The sweeping technology changes of the 4th Industrial Revolution were profoundly changing the ways governments and businesses operate. How could leadership become more responsive and responsible to confront the enormous scale, complexity and urgency of the world's current challenges?  

Deloitte Global Chief Strategy Officer, John Meacock, was a Quest for Leadership 4.0 panelist and the discussion was livestreamed on 3 July at 2:00pm – 3:00pm. John contributed fresh perspectives and insights on the critical issues facing businesses today.

Deloitte Meets Hubei Provincial Government Leaders

On 1 July at the WEF 2019 Annual Meeting of the New Champions, Deloitte Global Chief Strategy Officer John Meacock, Deloitte China Innovation Leader and Eastern Region Managing Director Dora Liu, Deloitte China Brand & Communications Leader Lily Sheng and Wuhan Office Managing Partner Fan Hongbin met Zhao Haishan, vice governor of Hubei Provincial Government, and other leaders. 

At the meeting, Vice Governor Zhao Haishan introduced the current situation and future development trends of industry in Hubei, thanking Deloitte for its contribution to the development of the province. He said he hopes to continue to work closely with Deloitte to promote further opening up of Hubei industries through enhanced innovation capabilities, and attract more FG500 companies to operate in the province.

John emphasized that, as one of Deloitte's key global strategies, we are committed to helping multinational companies enter China and facilitating more Chinese enterprises’ global journeys. We will therefore further deepen our understanding of the demands of local enterprises and redouble our efforts to support Hubei's development.

Dora Liu, Fan Hongbin and Lily Sheng reported on Deloitte's innovation capabilities, key cooperation projects with the Hubei government, and the development of the Wuhan Office over the past 10 years.   

The Hubei provincial leaders at the meeting also included Liu Zhongchu, deputy secretary general of Hubei Provincial Government, Qin Jun, director of the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province, and his Deputy Director Hu Zhonghai.
