I once served as a senior auditor in Deloitte's Audit Group One, and in 2018, I chose to leave Deloitte to join a major internet company. In 2019, I returned to Deloitte through employee referral.
Although my title remained the same, my work scope and perspective have both expanded. Previously, I mainly handled the audit work for A-share and H-share listed companies; upon rejoining, I began to engage with and delve into the audit field of US-listed companies, ushering in a new round of challenges and growth in my career.
👇 Below is my story of returning to Deloitte.
After leaving Deloitte:
I joined the finance department of a major internet company, responsible for financial reporting-related work. During these few months, I deeply experienced the significant differences between other industry companies and Deloitte.
· Atmosphere and Cohesion: At Deloitte, the project-based management model brought each team together around a common goal, promoting a harmonious atmosphere among team members through flat management, achieving efficient and transparent communication. In contrast, departments in large enterprises have clearly defined responsibilities, and team goals vary, making the spirit of everyone working together and striving at Deloitte particularly precious.
· Professional Challenges and Growth: At Deloitte, as a project leader, I had the opportunity to examine corporate finances from a macro perspective, cultivating a valuable global view. In the enterprise, my role was more like a "screw" specialized in a certain financial area. The experience at Deloitte honed my ability to think strategically about complex issues, while the challenge in the enterprise lay in integrating these strategic thoughts into the details of daily operations.
· Career Path and Development Prospects: Deloitte, with its clear promotion path and diversified business exposure, provided individuals with space for all-round development. In comparison, career development within enterprises focuses more on internal promotions, usually following a relatively fixed trajectory, concentrating on specific functions or business areas. My growth experience at Deloitte opened a door to a broader professional world for me.
Reasons for Rejoining Deloitte
When I decided to leave Deloitte, I was filled with regret and reluctance. After immersing myself in the internet industry for a few months, I found that despite my hard work, I seemed to be stuck in a growth plateau. I began to miss the feeling of constant learning and progress at Deloitte.
Moreover, I noticed that senior financial positions in major internet companies were often held by professionals with high-level management experience in accounting firms. I realized that reaching the manager level at Deloitte was crucial for my long-term career path.
Aside from the pursuit of professional growth, Deloitte's deep-rooted talent culture and the warm relationships with colleagues were also important driving forces for my decision to return. In my past work experiences, I often missed the days at Deloitte, where the work environment was pure and full of positive energy.
In the end, I decided to return to Deloitte. This was not only because I believed there was a better career development path here, but more importantly, I wanted to return to a place where I felt a sense of belonging, to continue fighting alongside my respected colleagues.
After Returning to Deloitte
I experienced a transformation and pleasant surprise in my career. Transitioning from the audit fields of A-shares and H-shares to the US market, this leap not only broadened my capital market perspective but also deepened my understanding of international accounting standards.
During the six years since my return, I have not only clarified my career development path but also gained promotion opportunities, allowing me to specialize in my professional field and take on more responsibilities within the organization. This experience has made me even more convinced that Deloitte is not only the starting point of my career but also the stage where I continuously grow and realize my dreams.
I first joined Deloitte in 2016, working as an auditor in the Shanghai Audit & Assurance Group Eastern Region, and later grew to become a senior auditor. My main clients included A+H listed companies, HKIPOs, MNCs, etc. The experience after leaving Deloitte provided me with a different perspective on work, allowing me to view and solve problems from the client's perspective, better understanding their pain points and needs. I chose to return to Deloitte at the beginning of 2022.

After Leaving Deloitte
In 2021, I left Deloitte to join a large company, working in the Group Financial General Ledger and Reporting team, mainly responsible for accounting and reporting disclosure. This experience gave me a different perspective on work, enabling me to view and solve problems from the client's perspective, better understanding their pain points and needs.
Reasons for Rejoining Deloitte
During my time working for the client side, I gained a lot. However, Deloitte has a relatively complete training system and encourages experienced talents to continuously gain new experiences and skills in their work. Additionally, the "competitive" culture I encountered after leaving Deloitte made me miss the pure times when the team collaborated to overcome difficulties and deliver projects. At Deloitte, under the project-based management model, it is easier for individuals to form partner-like friendships within the team, highlight professional skills, and continuously develop the ability to identify and solve problems. After some time, I began to feel that working for the client could not provide me with the growth I desired, so I had the idea of returning to the firm. Before rejoining Deloitte, there were indeed opportunities with other 'Big Four' firms, but I was more familiar with Deloitte's culture and work processes; most importantly, there were a group of lovely colleagues here, so I decided to return to Deloitte, back to my familiar environment, and look forward to facing new challenges at work.
After Returning to Deloitte
When I left, I was a Senior and I rejoined as a Manager. The change in role allows me to have a broader perspective, recognizing that what needs to be managed in a project is not just a part. The experience working for the client side helps me better understand the client's perspective when communicating with them and handling issues, thus serving clients better. For those who are interested in job opportunities at Deloitte, I would like to say: There may be many challenging projects that make you feel unsatisfied in the short term, but do not easily give up due to temporary gains or losses; instead, look to the future. Looking back after a year, the efforts I made have brought me rewards and returns in both spiritual and material aspects. Keep going, professionals!
I joined Deloitte as an auditor in 2017. After taking a year off in 2022, I rejoined Deloitte and returned to my familiar function.

After Leaving Deloitte
The decision to leave was likely more about confusion and the allure of what lies beyond the "fortress."
As a Deloitte Baby, I joined Deloitte right after graduation. After a few years of work, I began to wonder about the outside world. After leaving Deloitte, I went to a company in the real estate industry and served as a financial accounting manager. At that time, my former company had just gone public and hoped to establish a comprehensive accounting system. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of how other industries operate and renewed my passion for audit work.
Reasons for Rejoining Deloitte
Later, a project manager I had worked with approached me, hoping I would return. By then, I was already firmly convinced that audit work was what I wanted, and I chose to come back with confidence, believing I would develop better. At Deloitte, thanks to a clear career development path, I could see the results of my work or receive feedback from my superiors more quickly. One year after returning, I was promoted to manager, which would have taken much longer if I had stayed at the client side. Additionally, Deloitte's firm culture and team collaboration atmosphere were also important reasons for my decision to return. When I chose to take a break, a manager here told me that if I wasn't happy outside, I was always welcome to come back home. This sense of inclusiveness and support made me feel warm and secure.
After Returning to Deloitte
I found that Deloitte had made significant progress in many areas. First, it's teamwork. At Deloitte, colleagues collaborate closely to complete tasks, whereas at the client side, there was more focus on individual work. I am more adaptable to Deloitte's working style. Second, I believe the most significant difference is inclusiveness. When I chose to take a break, a manager here told me that if I wasn't happy outside, I was always welcome to come back. In contrast, when I left the client side, the manager clearly told me that the company would not accept employees who want to return. This sense of having a "backing" made me even more determined to return.
Since returning, I have not only made greater progress in my career but also gained more in personal growth. I will continue to ride the waves and move forward bravely in the field I love.
Deloitte was my first job after graduation, and I worked in the audit department for over ten years, growing from a naive "newbie" to a senior audit manager. During this period, I worked and progressed together with my batchmates, creating countless beautiful memories and growth experiences.
After accumulating 3.5 years of work experience outside, I returned to Deloitte as a director in November 2024.
👇 Below is my story of returning to Deloitte.
After Leaving Deloitte
I worked at a regulatory agency for more than three years, primarily responsible for investigating improper audit practices by accounting firms on listed companies. This experience deepened my understanding of compliance in the audit industry and also cultivated a stronger regulatory mindset. During my time at the regulatory agency, I experienced different corporate cultures and working styles. The friendly corporate culture and team collaboration atmosphere at Deloitte were unmatched by other companies, which I missed the most. In comparison, the work at the regulatory agency might be more rigid and formal. After careful consideration, especially regarding my career development, I decided to rejoin Deloitte. Deloitte encourages employees to continuously learn and grow, which not only boosts my confidence in career but also provides me with more development opportunities.
Reasons for Rejoining Deloitte
I chose to rejoin Deloitte because the work content here aligns closely with my career goals. Additionally, Deloitte offers broad career development opportunities and a pleasant colleague environment, making me feel very comfortable. Deloitte's Employee Value Proposition emphasizes the growth and development of employees, which is highly consistent with my career planning. I rejoined Deloitte through employee referral. After leaving Deloitte, I maintained contact with my former colleagues and bosses, which kept me informed about the latest developments and job requirements at Deloitte, facilitating my smooth return.
After Returning to Deloitte
I found that Deloitte had made significant progress in digital transformation. New workflows and tools have made work more efficient, and team cohesion has increased. These changes have greatly inspired me and motivated me to integrate better into the team. Transitioning from the audit fields of A-shares and H-shares to the U.S. market has not only broadened my perspective on capital markets but also deepened my understanding of international accounting standards.
During the years since my return, I have not only clarified a clear path for career development but also gained promotion opportunities, allowing me to specialize further in my professional field and take on more responsibilities within the organization. This experience has reinforced my belief that Deloitte is not only where my career began but also the stage where I continue to grow and achieve my dreams.
