In the 2019 Deloitte and MAPI Smart Factory Study, we found that 55 percent of industrial companies surveyed can be considered Explorers on the smart factory journey, currently implementing an initiative tied to digital factories; only 18 percent could be considered Trailblazers—who had a complete transformation in one location. All other respondents are Followers, taking a wait-and-see approach with around only 13 percent of their budgets devoted to smart factory initiatives across on average just five or so use cases.
