Building bots with kids from a distance

Everyday Impact Story: Deloitte Netherlands crowdsources employee expertise to volunteer virtual hours during COVID

In the midst of the Coronavirus crisis, Deloitte people around the globe are working to connect to what matters each and every day. This story is part of a series featuring Deloitte people and the impactful work they are doing with clients and in the communities they serve.

What is the challenge?

COVID-19 has resulted in many unforeseen business challenges for not-for-profits and public organizations, disrupting traditional business models and making it difficult to effectively reach those they serve. For example Building Bots for Kids, an initiative which inspires young learners through technology and robotics, can no longer reach kids in the classroom due to social distancing rules.

How are we helping?

Every Deloitte practitioner in the Netherlands has been enabled to dedicate hours volunteering time to use their skills to help local organizations do what they do best—serve their communities. Our people can nominate initiatives that are important to them. For example, pprofessionals who usually deliver Building Bots with Kids in person, are using their time to help transition the initiative online, and have been able to reach even more young learners remotely.

Our professionals are assisting with a wide range of projects from cybersecurity programming at a Dutch healthcare organization, to providing remote lessons to improve high school teachers’ tech fluency. At Deloitte, we understand that our people are our greatest asset. The Dutch Deloitte Impact Foundation aims to mobilize our collective expertise to support the important work of local organizations.

At Deloitte, we are connecting with our clients, people, and communities to make an impact every day.
