Accelerated Spend Analysis

A more effective way of performing a Spend Analysis

Sourcing and procurement initiatives remain one of the most attractive ways to save cost in organizations today. Cost savings typically come quickly, the investments are low and the impact on the organization is small compared to many other types of initiatives.

Deloitte helps our clients to set up their sourcing organizations and to implement the new procurement models throughout the organization. However, we also support clients to actually perform sourcing activities by running the process to source various categories to achieve cost savings all the way up to contract signature. We work with both indirect and direct categories in a variety of industry segments. Apart from unit cost reductions, demand management, standardization of specifications and vendor concentration are often key themes in such projects. Normally, we deliver these projects on a value billing basis to share risk with our clients. The first step in performing a sourcing project is typically to do a Spend analysis.

Spend Analysis – An Overview

Performing a Spend Analysis may take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the scope and complexity of the categories included in the scope. There are three main objectives with a Spend Analysis.

  • To gain a detailed view on what the organization is buying from whom
  • To estimate the savings potential in the different categories (using Deloitte’s experience)
  • To prioritize the upcoming sourcing activities based on potential and develop a project plan

Accelerated Spend Analysis

Deloitte has developed the Accelerated Spend Analysis together with Soliditet, which is the leading business and credit information provider in the Nordics. This offering is the same as our traditional Spend Analysis offering, but the project is performed together with Soliditet using their leading edge data analysis tools and information databases. There are several benefits with the Accelerated Spend Analysis:

  • The spend analysis can be carried out faster, at a lower cost and with even higher quality
  • Soliditet can provide a recurring analysis after the initial project to support the tracking of progress
  • A number of value added deliverables can be included as part of the spend analysis
The value added deliverables are important and they are unique to the Accelerated Spend Analysis service provided by Deloitte and Soliditet. The following are the most important value added deliverables:
  • Ability to map vendors to SNI codes, enabling spend categorization when not available
  • Efficient handling and removal of multiple data entries (e.g. same supplier with multiple names)
  • Ability to build vendor group structures, effectively seeing the spend per group rather than company
  • Possibility to detect indications of fraud (e.g. non-existent companies)
  • Detection and classification of high-risk suppliers, i.e. default risk and similar
  • Indications of double invoicing (optional)

Apart from this, the Accelerated Spend Analysis of course includes all components of a traditional Spend Analysis. Also, based on the preferences of the individual client it can be offered on a Value Billing basis.
