International Employment Law - Redundancy and termination in Europe
We are proud to present our International Dismissal Survey comprising the legislation of 25 countries: Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
This is the second edition of the International Dismissal survey which was conducted for the first time in 2009.
The survey reveals that there are a lot of differences in employment protection legislation between the countries investigated. However all countries concerned have employment protection legislation in place, i.e. rules aimed to make the employee’s dismissal more difficult. Contrary to the United States of America, where employment contracts can easily be terminated, European legislators generally take the view that dismissing employees should not be made easy, that existing jobs need to be protected to a certain extent and job security should be maintained.
