Malaysian companies continue to make their mark

17 fast-rising companies prove the 'Malaysia Boleh' spirit

Petaling Jaya, 31 December 2007 - 17 Malaysian companies were heralded as Asia Pacific’s fastest growing technology companies in the 2007 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific ranking, the region’s most comprehensive and respected ranking of fast-growing technology companies, in a gala award ceremony held in Hong Kong recently.

Ranking of the fast-growing public and private companies from Australia, China (including Hong Kong), India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand were based on a three-year average percentage for revenue growth. Out of 17, four Malaysian companies were among the Top 100 Asia Pacific companies to enjoy rapid revenue growth over the three years.

Deloitte Malaysia Managing Partner, Ahmad Mustapha Ghazali noted, “The Malaysian participants are holding their own in these Asia Pacific rankings in the face of challenges by companies from burgeoning economies such as India and China.”

Extol MSC Berhad led the field at number 53, with recorded three-year average revenue growth of 823.76 per cent, followed closely by VADS e-Services Sdn Bhd (54), with growth of 800.48 per cent.

“We are proud to lead the field of Malaysian companies in this prestigious award. We hope to continue this success in next year’s ranking,” said Extol MSC Berhad Chief Executive Officer, Justin Tan.

Communication and networking company, RedHot Media Sdn Bhd was ranked 93rd with growth of 483.68 per cent. Green Packet Berhad, which was a previous winner, ranked 99th this year.

“The competition is getting tougher each year but we are proud to have won again and this is proof that our momentum has not slowed. Winning twice in a row has given us greater understanding of the process especially as the awards help us identify the areas in our operation that require fine tuning,” said Puan Chan Cheong, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for Green Packet Malaysia.

The sole representative in Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical sector, StemLife Berhad, did Malaysia proud with a ranking of number 148.

Managing Director for StemLife Berhad, Sharon Low said, “We are delighted to be honoured with our second Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Award in two consecutive years. We have achieved much over the last six years but believe that this industry is only in its nascent stages and we have much more to do moving forward in the area of stem cell banking and establishing new regenerative therapies.”

Almost one third of the winning Malaysian companies were previous winners such as StemLife Berhad, N2N Connect Berhad, MoBif Berhad, iNavigate Sdn. Bhd., K-One Technology Berhad and Green Packet Berhad.

Deloitte received 33 nominations this year. The top performing sector in 2007 is the software sector with seven Malaysian companies included in the ranking.  Communications / networking companies followed behind with a total of four companies listed in the ranking.
