Survival, Restructuring and RetrenchmentsNot all jobs are sacrosanct |
Undoubtedly the world economic recession has created an operational need for South African Companies to downsize, restructure and retrench staff as part of a survival strategy.
Salaries and employee benefits normally represent the bulk of company overheads and companies simply cannot continue to employ staff where the value they add are less than their cost of employment. In such distressed circumstances the reality is that not all jobs can be considered sacrosanct and the operational need for restructuring and retrenchment become unavoidable. These processes may also impact on the existing terms and conditions of employment short of a retrenchment process.
